9 Things to Think about Before You Give Up

9 Things to Think About Before You Give Up

Things to think about

Original Post at Marc and Angel Hack Life

If you feel like you’re at the end the road with nowhere to go, realize you are lying to yourself.  You have imprisoned yourself in your own mind by telling self-defeating stories – stories about what your life should be like, what you should have already accomplished, and so forth.  By doing this you’ve created a tiny space in your mind and you’ve begun to believe you are actually living in it.

But you are NOT.  You are alive in a vast world with infinite destinations.  Take a moment to remind yourself of this.  Go outside.  Look at the sky and the clouds.  THIS is the space in which you really live.  Breathe it in.  Then look at your current situation again.

Here are some things you need to consider before you give up:

  1. You never fail until you’re satisfied with failure. – Failure is not falling down; failure is staying down when you have the choice to get back up.  Sometimes you have to fail a thousand times to succeed.  Which means you haven’t really failed yet; you’ve just found a bunch of ways that don’t work.  So don’t get so hung up on a few failed attempts that you miss every new opportunity coming your way.  All of your ideas that don’t work are simply stepping stones on your way to the one idea that does.  As Winston Churchill once said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”  Read Awaken the Giant Within.Voice is a liar
  2. What you have learned is what’s important. – Life always offers you a second chance – it’s called tomorrow.  But this second chancedoesn’t mean anything if you haven’t learned from the events of today.  You have to acknowledge your troubles but gather strength from them, and laugh at your mistakes but learn from them.  Getting a second chance in life is about giving yourself the opportunity to grow beyond your past failures.  It’s about learning as you go and positively adjusting your attitude and efforts toward future possibilities.
  3. Tough times are just part of life’s natural balance. – Life lives, life dies.  Life laughs, life cries.  Life gives up and life tries.  And life looks different through everyone’s eyes.  In fact, who you were, who you are, and who you will become are three completely different people.  And as you gradually grow beyond the person you were yesterday, keep life’s challenges in perspective.  Hear life’s harmony, and notice the delicate balance.  Realize that life is like playing a grand piano.  The white keys create your happiness and the black keys denote your troubles.  But as you go through life’s journey, remember that the black keys also create music.
  4. Pain helps you grow. – Sometimes things must change so you can change.  Sometimes you must break a little so you can get a peek inside to see what an awesome powerhouse you are.  Sometimes mistakes must be made so wisdom can be earned.  Sometimes you must overcome heartache so you can begin to follow your heart again.
  5. Success is a way of living. – Don’t let your struggles become your identity.  Not everything in your life will go as you expect it to.  This is why you need to drop expectations, live in the present, and go with the flow, rather than against it.  Remind yourself that it’s perfectly okay not to be perfect.  Ultimately, success is not something you achieve, it is what you learn and how you grow as you deal with the realities of life – it is a way of living and being.  Read As a Man Thinketh.
  6. You can choose differently. – The difference between a mountain and a molehill is your perspective.  And in many cases, the only thing in life you have control over is your perspective.  No matter what happens, YOU control Progress not perfectionwhat the meaning is, and what to do with the meaning you give to the circumstance.  Choose to react in a way that motivates happiness, love, or forgiveness, even when circumstances make that choice difficult.
      1. It’s not supposed to be easy. – Just because you’re not where you want to be today doesn’t mean you won’t be there someday.  Again, success is tied to long-term determination.  Successful people keep moving and trying.  They make mistakes, but they do not quit.  If things in your life aren’t happening as planned right now, that’s okay.  It just means it’s not the right time.  Life’s brick walls are not there to keep you out, they’re there to give you a chance to show how badly you want something.  They’re there to stop the people who don’t want it as bad as you do.
  7. Simplify, simplify, simplify. – Like all magnificent things, life is quite simple.  Its simplicity is found not in seeing how little you can get by with – that’s poverty – but how efficiently you can conquer your biggest difficulties.  Remember, the greatest wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.  Your most significant ideas and accomplishments will be genius in their simplicity.  One day you will find the right words, the right decisions, and the right solutions that will lead you to victory, and they will be far simpler than they seem right now. Read The Power of Less. You are not a tree
  8. Life is still good. – You may have seen better days, but you have also seen worse.  You might not have all your wants, but you do have all your needs.  You woke up with a few aches and pains, but you woke up.  Your life may not be perfect, but it is good.  And more good things are coming down the road as long as you keep moving forward.

Your Kids Want this More than Heroin

We all know this scene:

Boy screaming supermarket

You just got into the wrong checkout line at the grocery…

You’re in line at the grocery store.

A child who looks like he needs a little more exercise starts dancing around with a king sized Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups package.

‘The mother is going to tell him heck no,’ you think to yourself.  You know this game (we all played them in ourCandybars supermarket own childhoods!)

If you were her, you would say no – that kid does NOT need a candybar.

Sure enough, she shrugs him off.

“Uhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnnnn…” starts the boy in a low wail, as if the world is crashing down.

You start to wish you had chosen a different checkout line… how long is this going to go on for.

The boy. Keeps. Wailing.

What is this???? He’s put the Reece’s on the belt and she pretends not to notice…

major malfunction

Private’s Major Donut Malfunction lasted into adulthood…

A major malfunction has just occurred.

Can you identify what just happened here?

Well, this mom has just rewarded negative behavior.

With a candybar that is going to have a NEGATIVE effect on this kid’s physical and emotional well-being.

If you’re a nerd for brain facts, you probably already know that children are constantly creating chemical connections as they learn how the world works.

Not only are kids watching an adult role model’s every move for cues on what to do and how to act…

They’re also developing these synapses in 2 key areas that will affect their EVERY undertaking.

Usually, FOREVER.

Those 2 areas are the centers for pleasure and pain.

More specifically, they’re developing rules, or blueprints… if you want to think of it in those terms.

Ways they can gain pleasure and avoid pain.

And parents who use food as a reward (and a reward for negative behavior at that – don’t even get me started)…

Well, they’re pretty much guaranteeing that they’re going to mess their child up.

These simple, everyday things about how you respond to your child can affect how successful your child is for life!

Ever hear people talk about having a food addiction, and think, ‘Just get off your a** and go work out!’

Well, they may not be as lazy as you think.

This year, several studies were backed up with further info that says sugar is more addictive than cocaine and heroin.

Like, just as addictive as cocaine?Boy with bowl of sugar

Nope, 8 TIMES more addictive.

So, are all incentives bad?

Of course not.

In fact, there are several things to keep in mind when you want to use incentives in a positive way.

First, know your goal: what positive behavior do you want to support with a reward?

How about less sugar and MORE physical activity – email me for help on that one J

That way, you can set your child up with good behaviors for life, rather than keep putting band-aids on bad behavior.

Plus, when you respond to your child’s every whim, you’re letting him or her control the show.

When you set up a general direction for your child, you’re doing your job as a parent to be a guide – and a responsible role model.

So, no more band-aids!

If your child is controlling the show, give him or her something to work for!!

Girl working out

Second, keep your rewarding consistent.

If 30 minutes of physical activity gets a (non-food) treat, make sure your child can earn the treat EVERY time.

If you skip, the whole system is broken down.

Third, consider what’s called “differential” incentives: let your child decide how hard they want to work.

And let the reward size equal the work output.

Not only does this inspire harder output, it also builds confidence and an inner sense of control.

FitRanX for Kids uses this scientifically proven system in its reward system to associate physical activity with the pleasure centers in the BRAIN.

During class, your child earns tickets for achieving goals like working harder to win that game and tickets for showing up.

Just like Chuck E Cheese.

And what children of a certain age DON’T like Chuck E Cheese?

That’s right!

And this program grows with your kids, because not only do they get small rewards each time, they’re also working toward a bigger goal…

(Leveling Up and receiving those colored RanX bands).

Bet you didn’t know we did all that in the Kids’ program, did you!!

How are you doing at setting up a positive reward system for your children?

Shoot me and email or leave a comment below and let me know, I’d be happy to talk with you about it!

When you HIT that WALL

when you hit the wall

Okay, okay…. so I didn’t post last week I’m sure I could come up with some great excuse but I won’t even try.

The truth is, I hit “The Wall”.  Everyone probably knows exactly which “wall” I’m talking about.

The one that makes you feel like you have somehow failed, like you may never reach your goal weight.

It’s a terrible feeling and it truthfully made me want to give up.

The thing is, I know where my down fall was.

weight loss, diet, cheat

Two days before Valentine’s Day me, my 4 year old, and my 10 year old each made our own special Valentine’s Day cake (we make some kind of baked goodie for every holiday, it’s our tradition).

The thing is I was the one who had to mix all the batters, and I don’t know a single person that loves cake batter more than me.

So, I ate my fair share of cake batter, AND frosting knowing that I had to weigh myself in 2 days.

When that Saturday rolled around I got up on that scale and was actually shocked that I hadn’t gained weight, but I hadn’t lost anything either.

I decided that I would recover this week and be back on track, no such luck.

I hopped back on the scale Saturday and STILL at the same weight.  I haven’t dropped anything in 2 weeks!!!!!

Now, having to live with Sgt. Nick Rians who is in amazing shape, makes me be even harder on myself.

So when he asked me why I didn’t write my last blog I was super embarrassed to give him my reason.

I sucked it up and was completely honest with why I skipped the last blog, he just stood there with a puzzled look on his face.

I immediately got really defensive and said “WHAT?!?!”  That’s when he put some perspective on the situation.

He says to me, “We’ll how much have you lost since Sammie was born?”  I told him 26lbs so far and I only have 8 more to go to reach my pre-pregnancy weight.

women, exercise, diet, goalsHe reminded me of how good I have done so far, and that I shouldn’t focus on hitting a wall but focus on how great I’ve done so far.

And with just that little bit of encouragement I felt 100% better and have a new goal… I’m giving myself 2 weeks to lose my last 8 lbs.

So if you have hit that wall, remind yourself of how good you have been doing and give yourself a pat on the back for all the hard work so far and DON’T give up!!!!

“I just high fived myself in the meat department”

01/22/2014 1 comment

So,  I’m down another 2lbs this week and I couldn’t help but feeling like it wasn’t enough.

I was assured by my other half, aka Sgt. Nick Rians that 2-3lbs loss a week is ideal and healthy.

Still I was stuck feeling like it should be more.

While still sulking over a 2lb loss I found myself standing in the meat department of our grocery store.

I was standing there looking through the ground beef trying to find a package that came as close to 2lbs as possible for dinner.

Fitness client retention

I finally found one that was dead on 2lbs.

I’m holding this large hunk of ground beef in my hands and it hits me…. I lost this much meat off my body in the past week!!!!

I suddenly didn’t feel so bad anymore.

If ever you feel that your 2-3 lbs loss is not substantial, just go to the meat department at your grocery store and find that hunk of meat that matches your weight loss and just hold it in your hands.

You will realize that the 2lbs you worked so hard to lose really is pretty good, and give yourself a little pat on the back.

I would advise to wait until you get into the car for that, otherwise you might get some really odd looks from the butcher…. I certainly did:-)

My new thing this week is,  instead of driving every where I would walk with the stroller instead.  ( if it was within reasonable distance )

Now I hope nobody is laughing yet, but my 4yr old can’t even keep up with me while I walk.

She is constantly telling me mommy slow down I’m tired of running.

What I am saying is, I’m fast.

I’m pretty sure I look like one of those “power walkers” and to top it off I am constantly talking to my baby while I’m strolling along at hyper speed.

fitness motivation

I really enjoyed myself, maybe it was all the natural vitamin D  I was taking in but it was one heck of a workout.

I will never laugh or poke fun of those power walkers again, and I plan on keeping this as part of my weekly routine.

In total, down 7lbs in 3 weeks and saved one tank of gas!

Not only am I becoming my old hot self, I’m giving people something to laugh at as they drive by me while I’m talking into my stroller at hyper speed, and saving the environment!

Sorry I’ve been Missing In Action!!

The past month has been crazy with the international launch of my fitness ranking system.

You can check it out here if you want:

Things are starting to calm down now, so I can get back to my regular routine.

Dreams fitness ranking

Bring it in and take a knee…..

I received a few emails this week from people that are chasing their dreams.

Now I’m not trying to brag here (maybe a little:), but they said the reason for that was based on some of the motivational comments and stories I post.

Damn that’s cool!

It made me all warm and fuzzy inside and for a hardened warrior like myself, that’s tough to do.

It just goes to show you how POWERFUL words can be.

They can start WARS, Change a LIFE, or Make someone fall in LOVE with you.

A herd of goats in Greece

So don’t just follow the herd, stand out from it.

No matter how outrageously crazy your dream may be. CHASE IT!

Just because everyone else is going through life one way, doesn’t mean you have to.

Some of the most successful people out there are the ones that grabbed life by the balls and said “I’m doing shit my way!”

breaking barriers fitness ranking

The only person holding you back is yourself.

You can always come up with excuses to make yourself feel better about not going after your dreams.

It’s up to you to break through those barriers and let nothing stand in your way.

It’s your dream….No one else is going to get you there except yourself.

Enough with the balloons and teddy bears….Lets get out there and get to work!!

Don’t Fall Off…..

This is for all you people out there that have started meal plans, diets, healthier eating, whatever you’d like to call it and are starting to fall off the wagon.

Now, I really want you to take a look in the mirror and ask yourself

Why are you allowing this to happen?

What is it that’s more important to you then your health?

Is it the taste of the food?

Is it that 10 minutes of pleasure that you get from eating something that tastes good but is going to hurt your body?

REALLY think about that.

Also I REALLY want you to think about what would happen if you ate something a little healthier.

If you dropped a little more weight.

Imagine adding a year onto your life, because of your healthy eating choices.

And imagine in that one extra year, how many more pleasurable moments you will get to experience.

Spending more time with your children

Your grandchildren

Your other half

Imagine today was your last day on earth.

And if you ate healthy today, you would get to live just one more day.

Now, we are all going to stumble.

You are most likely not going to be successful at your first try at eating healthy and dropping weight.

Probably not the second time or the third time either.

So for all of you that have failed and are still sitting on the sidelines…….

Screen shot 2011-01-06 at 8.18.53 AM

Yes, I just slapped you in the face and said, “ Get on your feet!”

Get back up, keep going, and try again!

Every time you are about to put something bad in your face.

Think about what I just said.

Think about those moments in your life that you were the happiest.

And think how many more of those moments you can have just by eating a little healthier.

So, get your ass off the sidelines and start doing something to better yourself.

Like the Body Weight Workout of the day:-)

What’s Holding You Back?

Shared with me some of her most deepest darkest secrets.

Of course, I am not going to talk about what she told me, but I wanted to address how brave it was for Mrs Smith to do this.

A lot of times the past is the reason why we are doing things in the present.

If what you are doing in the present is not making you happy, then you may have to face those demons from your past.

For Mrs Smith to actually confront her demons and talk about what had happened to her is a huge step in the healing process.

Her realizing that those things are what is holding her back from eating the way she wants to and getting the results she wants is the first hurdle to becoming who she wants to be.

Morning JourneyThis journey is not going to be easy.

This journey is not going to be short.

But we can make this journey together.
